On November 28th, Friends of We Care will be celebrating #GivingTuesday; a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following American Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season. It is a day when we join together to share commitments and think about others
This year we are working with Easter Seals Manitoba to raise the funds to get new boccia ramps for their Winnipeg camp program. Boccia is a game of strategy and accuracy that was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy. Now, the sport includes athletes with impairments that affect motor skills. The sport is played on a flat, smooth surface, where players must throw or roll coloured balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the “jack.” The player, pair or team with the most balls near the jack is the winner. Boccia is a great sport for anyone to play, and these ramps will help give every kid a chance to play.
You can take a look at boccia in action HERE!
Just like other provinces, Easter Seals Manitoba runs several camps throughout the summer with tons of kids from all over Manitoba. Our goal is to give these kids more opportunities to experience life without barriers.
If you want to support this initiative, make sure to mark your calendars for November 28th and follow us on all social media for updates throughout the month. We will be launching the donation page a few days before Giving Tuesday so stay tuned!
